2002:
In 2002 I did a short acclimatization
trip in the Langtang area before heading to the Tibetan-side basecamp of Cho-Oyu to make my second (unsuccessful) attempt to climb its
8201m summit (see here).

valley.

2008:
In 2008, for almost two months I trekked
from the western side of Nepal (starting near Darchula)
to central Nepal (ending at Arughat). This was the
first half of my west-to-east traverse of Nepal. I completed the traverse in
2011. The following photos are approximately in chronological order.
People of the remote village of Chetty,
where cannabis is a major crop.
Left: Women carrying freshly cut
cannabis stems. Right: Men hand spinning wool; local people make their own warm
wool clothes, including these beautiful jackets and pants.
Men smoking chillums (straight
funnel-shaped pipes).
Woman with flowers in her hairs.
Nice hat!
During the Dashain festival.

of Hurikot village.
